American Samoa consists of a main island and two atolls. Tutulia, largest of the seven islands in the group, is almost bisected by the harbour at Pago Pago.  Aunu'u is a small island off the southeastern tip of  Tutulia. There are three Manua'a islands:Ta'u, Olosega and Ofu.  These are about 100 km east of Tutulia.   Swains Islands, way north of our map, is a small, privately owned coral atoll.  Rose Island, 400km east of Tutulia, is a tiny uninhabited atoll.

American Samoa is unincorporated territory of United States.  The capital and administrative centre is Pago Pago on Tutuila island.  Pago Pago is one of the best natural deepwater harbors in the South Pacific Ocean, sheltered by shape from rough seas and protected by peripheral mountains from the high seas.  It also has a strategic location in the South Pacific Ocean.

The climate is tropical marine moderated by southeast trade winds.  The rainy season is from November to April.  Annual rainfall averages 124 inches. Temperature ranges from 21 to 32 degrees Celcius.
