Early in February of ’66
the Kawishiwi was ordered to the ESSO Refinery at Bataan at the entrance
of Manila Bay, Philippine Islands. The ship moored to a series of
eight buoys about a mile off shore. A local diver was employed by
the company to bring the fuel hoses aboard at station 5. This special
operation of on-loading fuel took less than 24 hours, and the ship later
anchored near the capital city of Manila for several days of rest and relaxation.
