Vern's Uncle was on the west side of Island when WWII ended, aboard USS Adair

Buckner Bay was named after Lieutenant General Simon Bolivar Buckner, Jr.,
Head of 10th Army-Invasion Force onto Okinawa was killed here on June 18, 1945
