April 1970,  We spent most of the month of December at sea in the Gulf of Tonkin, and the days passed quickly with out heavy work schedule.  the begining of the new year brought our deployment to it's final phases and in mid-January we left Vietnam and the Philippines and headed north to Japan.  Arriving in Sasebo, Japan, we loaded stores and fleet freight for out customers in the Sea of Japan and left the same day for out commitments there.  We returned to Sasebo for three days of rest, relaxation,. and last minute shopping; a well deserved treat for the men of the Kawishiwi.  Underway again for a last replenishment of the ship in the Sea of Japan, we left the bitter cold of Japan and headed East for Hawaii.
