OILER - HISTORIC VALUE REVIEWS
On December 30, 2011, Vern received from the Maritime Administration,
a reasoning as to why certain Oilers are in status
"Historic Review".
The ships in question are
USNS
Shoshone (T-AO-151) and USS
Wichita (AOR-1)
The reviews are to see if the ships are eligible for listing on the
National Register of Historic Places.
As
per the National Historic Preservation Act, Federal agencies
must take
into account the effect of their “undertakings” (which in this case is
the
disposal).

While talking to D.C.
on making a museum, they said the only type of auxilary ship
that has been successfully saved is the "Victories" and the
"Liberties".
So shipmates; think SHIP MODEL like Capt.
Moloney does.
The only way an oiler
can be memorilized is like that in Fort Belvoir, Virginia.
The USS TAMALPAIS AO-96 is modeled
well there.
Make a model like I have drawn
up of USS KAWISHIWI AO-146
Then have it displayed aboard a CARRIER MUSEUM.
