On August 6, 2008,
TRUCKEE was removed from the Reserve Fleet, the 75th ship to do so
since 2001. It is important to note that this scrapping process has less meaning on how these served their country. the importance is, their rusting in our water supply is just killing the environment. The local process has been accelerated by a huge demand for scrap steel and an impasse that has stopped any ships from leaving a California reserve fleet, according to MARAD All reserve fleet ships — in the James; in Beaumont, Texas; and in Suisun Bay, Calif. — are rated from zero to six. Zero represents ships in the most deteriorated state. The ships left in the James all are three or better. |

| Bay Bridge Enterprises is one of the only six certified "green" ship-breaking yards in the US. The facility is located in the Norfolk area of Virginia and comprises of one main slip of 1200 feet length and one drag up slip and back-up area. The facility is capable of undertaking demolition of 3 to 5 vessels simultaneously depending on size. It also caters to the ship repairing requirements of small and mid-sized vessels. | ||
