MAKING NAVY RESERVE FLEETS USEFUL
..

You continue to amaze me... I wish I had your visions... All I have is a gift of finding and keeping friends. A few are "real" friends... I can't complain at that. I believe you should include every coastal state in this ambitious endeavor. If one picks up your project and runs with it then maybe another will follow. The 143's are not the only vessels out there that could be put to good use and ya never know!!! God Bless/Ron 10/11-2006

Fantastic!  You've done a real great job here.  A lot of work and thought.  I do hope it pays off!  Richard 10/11/2006

GREAT pics, and the suggestion is also GREAT- I hope they go for it and implement it. Hector 10/11/2006

Very nice presentation!  Good luck with it.  Ralph 10/11/2006

Looks like a good plan to me. If it's sensible, economical, and innovative the government won't be able to understand it. DVO 10/11/2006

Great idea.  We could probably use several in the SF Bay area when the next big one comes.  What emergency generators, pumps for fire fighting ashore, desalinization units, communication equipment etc. would be very useful during disasters.  If the ships were operational to go where needed might be asking too much, but think of the possibilities. Great idea. Let me know what I can do to promote this. Charles A. 10/11/2006

I think the homeless part is a bust.  Just think of the potential lawsuits (in the minds of any official receiving this idea) of someone falling overboard and drowning, tripping over a hatch combing, down a hatch, or falling over, around, into, or over anything steel, of which there is an abundance of on a ship.  On the other hand....... Guantanamo, back in 1969, was using a tanker as a distilling unit for fresh water for the base.Kawishiwi and her sisters would make good distilling units for fresh water in those places where it is needed. Wow, Vern;  I can only imagine how many hours it took to put this together.  I think it is a great idea to merge two good ideas (housing the homeless & storage for disaster relief) in one preassembled and ready to deliver platform.  It will be interesting to see if this gets any traction.  Have you considered sending this to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as well as the equivalent version in states that have navigable waterfront access to metropolitan areas (probably not a big seller in Montana or New Mexico). The only problem I see is trying to keep these things from becoming floating drug emporiums - ask offices of Kawishiw how  hard this was in the 1970's.  Lary 10/12/2006

Thank you, now I have more things to look at.   ( it is always nice to try, hope you succeed) Cooper 10/12/2006

You are brilliant.  I hope you can find one of those important people who will study your wishes.  It sounds great to me - but what do I know!!!   Marlynn 10/12/2006

Your idea is great but thinking of using 1950's ships with ASPESTOS all around would be a big mistake. Jose 10/16/2006
My reply is, Even the ships that are scraped or sunk must have all hazardous materials removed. This is no different.

Could you spare a few of those brochures you sent out?  Maybe I could help to get the word out to selected "officials" in this area. Sounds like a terrific project, and I'd like to help. what's the deal with that picture "Shelter for Homeless Vets"?? What's with all the ugly skulls? (I'd sure hate to come off a jag and wake up to THAT----freak me OUT!)  Jim 10/17/2006

I relayed this message along to our Senator.  It would be nice to be able to walk her decks again. Jim 10/24/2006

It’s not going very well for us. MARAD has sold two ships promised to our Mobile Ship Museum, out from under us - FOR SCRAPPING, what a shame. We are trying to recover from this.    David - Mobile Ship Museum  10/25/2006

I pledged to honor the aspirations and hard work of the people of Washington state. I try never to forget that purpose, when fighting for constituents in need, bringing attention to significant local issues, crafting legislation, to foster innovation for tomorrow; and to stand with parents as they educate and care for their children.

I have considered your comments carefully and will take them into account as we continue to confront the critical challenges ahead.

I want to help save the ships. How can I help? I'm new at something like this. Who do I contact to voice my opinion? What channels do I go through?.  Daron 10/31/2006
