Atlantic Basin Iron Works,
Brooklyn, N.Y.Commissioned
 USS Solace AH-5 on
9 August, 1941

Decommissioned on 27 March 1946 at Norfolk, VA

Reconverted to Passenger Ship
by Newport News Ship Building & Drydock Co.  Newport News, VA.

Delivered to the Turkish Gov. on
12 April, 1949 as SS Ankara



USS Solace (AH-5) at anchor in Hawaiian waters, circa 1941. She arrived at Pearl Harbor, 27 October 1941
 and handled hundreds of casualties on 7 December 1941 during the Japanese attack there.
