Launched: 8 October 1955 Built By: New York (N.Y.) Naval Shipyard Commissioned: 14 April 1956 Redesignated: as multi-purpose aircraft carrier CV 60 on June 30, 1975.
Decommissioned:  20 Aug 1994, and stricken the same day;
Towed: to Philadelphia, Pa., May 1995, Deactivated: Aug 1998 and relocated to Newport, R.I.,
Authorized: to be scrapped on 2 April 2010. To be disposed of by dismantling.
