The April 16, 2009 Ride
on LWC's adopted unit,
the USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN CVN-72
With a week’s notice, we first invited our Community Affiliates, then our members, and then members from other Navy League Councils including Spokane and Bremerton. Some 100 of the 2900 on board for a special cruise of the Lincoln were facilitated by your council. It was a full day with breakfast and lunch, tours of many of the working parts of the ship, clowns to entertain youngsters and the command performance:
“Touch and Go’s” of US Navy Aircraft from Naval Air Station Whidbey at the Straits of Juan de Fuca. There was also a cameo—the trident submarine USS Henry M Jackson, returning to port, most likely after a deterrent mission of over two months.
