Captain Kidd enlisted and entered boot camp in September 1975.  After completion of Aviation Anti-Warfare Operator training he reported to Patrol Squadron 49 for duty as a P3C Air Crewman.  Then AW2 Kidd, was selected for an NROTC scholarship and reported to the University of Texas in 1977.

After commissioning he attended Nuclear Power Training and reported aboard USS CASIMIR PULASKI (SSBN-633 Gold) where he completed five strategic deterrent patrols.  He next returned to the University of Texas as an NROTC instructor.  Following this assignment, he reported to the USS NEWPORT NEWS (SSN-750) as the Operations Officer and Navigator where he sailed on the NEWPORT NEWS’ maiden voyage in support of Operation Desert Storm.  Next reporting to U. S. Atlantic Command, he was assigned as the Special Submarine Operations Program Officer.

In 1995, he was selected into the Full Time Support community and assumed command of Naval and Marine Corps Reserve Center Boise, Idaho.  Following his first command tour, he served as the Director for Manpower, then as the Chief of Staff for Naval Reserve

Readiness Command, Region 11.  He next reported to Commander Submarine Forces Atlantic as the Reserve Liaison Officer.
Returning to Texas, he took command of Naval Reserve Center, Fort Worth, TX.  Most recently, he served as the Operational Support Officer for Naval Facilities Engineering Command at the Washington Navy Yard.

Captain Kidd's personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, four Meritorious Service Medals, three Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, and two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals.

Captain Kidd is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelors Degree in Architectural Engineering and has a Masters Degree in Education and a Certification as a Project Manager Professional from George Washington University.  He is a graduate of the USAF Air Command and Staff College. 

Captain Kidd is married to the former Sonja "Renee" Woods.  They have two sons, Austin (14) and Skyler (11).
