USNS John Ericsson T-AO-194
USNS Kawishiwi T-AO-146's - REPLACEMENT

This is the as she trained in San Diego to take over for the Kawishiwi. It was the new style MSC oiler. It has all hydrolic tensioned span wires including the Highline which can have an outgoing load while the other side is incoming. All electric winches. They have a helio deck unlike the Kawishiwi. There Refrigeration is inside the bays in the aft of the ship. They don't have to have all the conex boxes loaded and unloaded. Making sure all of the electric winches could do the job was a big thing prior to them taking the job. With that ship was one of the 2 breakaways we got to do. The second was when we off loaded our fuel.
The reason why the Navy keeps a lot of the old communication like flag Hoists and flashing lights ect. is because of Electronic Instruments that can home in on electronic signals. Ships want to be invisible if they can in a war area.
