These 14 enlisted men are responsible for the two main engines, evaporators, turbine condensers, the ship's service generators, also the main shafting and bearings, and the care and stowage of lube oil.

Working with steam at such high pressures and in such confined spaces for long periods of time is second nature to M division. As in other divisions, we assign one man a few selected pieces of gear and develope his comprehension and knowledge of same over a period of time. It pays off. The men of M division are well trained and capable in their job. They've got to be, for, a small slip and major propulsion assemblies can suffer serious damage. It's a major responsibility and one they accept with pride.
