If you like good pictures you should like this book because it's just about all pictures and the best ones we could find. We're not going to bore you with the details of how the Navigator accounts for his charts, or why the cooks use powered spuds, or what command the boss sailed with back in '49. what you do have, though, is the pick of the crop of candid shots of the interesting people and places we have seen on this cruise. We've got shots out on deck and some in the compartments; some at work and some at play; humorous liberty photos and full-dress inspection scenes - - - - but the BIG thing, the thing that we hope does show through in every picture on every page is the fighting "CAN DO" spirit of the Mighty K, for that we have plenty of, right, Buddy?.... USS KAWISHIWI, of course...

Many miles of water have slipped under the keel during 1959. Some were easy; others rough.Most of the year has been devoted to hard work which has built for KAWISHIWI a reputation for delivering the best the fastest. The ship is remembered whenever there's a job to be done. But reputations, be they of self or of ship, cannot be allowed to stagnate. They are maintained only by constant vigilance and hard work. If they are not kept furbished thsy stagnate.Keep the tempo going and keep KAWISHIWI at the top. GERALD P. JOYCE
