Arriving in Subic, orders were cut and I stayed as you guys left for the Tonkin gulf. In a Transit baracks, 12 men came together and we flew out of Cubi point for Ton sanut air base. Then went to Kam ranh bay and were assigned to PBR's (River Patrol Boats). That is when all hell broke loose. But that is another story. I was discharged from Oak Knoll Naval hospital in late 66 due to injuries sustained on the Mekong Delta. I went back to school and became an aerospace quality engineer until 1999 when I started writing. I have written 4 books, one is called "In God's Own Time". It is a story of mission that goes bad and the remaining sailors and Marines are taken to Cambodia where they were prisoners of a Tiger camp. I am 56 now, but at 18 our Lord was with me. Out of 13 men entering the camp, two came out. I changed my name
legally
in 99 at the request of my agent and lawyer to Jett David Rink. I
live a good life with a lovely woman and her daughter. I am
truely
blessed. I again thank you for remembering a time when young men
learned Duty, honor and country above all else at a time when political
correctness meant Vietnam Vets were nothing but dope heads and baby
killers.
God Bless and hold you Vern, forever and a Goto: Personnel Page |
