| Bodo (Bud) C. Neumann
USNR USS Kawishiwi AO-146
LTJG;
Damage
Control Assistant;
1955
- 1957 Both
Bob MacLeod and I graduated from OCS Class
14 together,
we both got our 1st assignments on different fleet oilers. My
ship, the
USS Monongahela (AO-42) was an old T-2 type vessel carrying only
aviation
gasoline. We only serviced aircraft carriers. My men used to tell
me that
they didn't need a Damage Control Officer . . . . . they needed a
chaplain! My time on fleet oilers served me well,
because after leaving the Navy I went
to work for Esso oil company as a senior designer. As a civil
engineer,
my job was to visit Esso terminal facilities throughout the world and
advise on
how to strengthen and upgrade them to handle 250,000 DWT VLCC
(Very Large Crude
Carriers) which were just coming into the picture. |
