Bodo (Bud) C. Neumann USNR  USS Kawishiwi AO-146        LTJG;  Damage Control Assistant;      1955  -  1957

Both Bob MacLeod and I graduated from OCS Class 14 together, we both got our 1st assignments on different fleet oilers.  My ship, the USS Monongahela (AO-42) was an old T-2 type vessel carrying only aviation gasoline.  We only serviced aircraft carriers. My men used to tell me that they didn't need a Damage Control Officer . . . . . they needed a chaplain!

My time on fleet oilers served me well, because after leaving the Navy I went to work for Esso oil company as a senior designer.  As a civil engineer, my job was to visit Esso terminal facilities throughout the world and advise on how to strengthen and upgrade them to handle 250,000 DWT VLCC (Very Large Crude Carriers) which were just coming into the picture.

I later transferred to the Arabian American Oil Company (ARAMCO), and with a wife and 4 children, spent 18 years in Saudi Arabia.  All of these years were spent in the Terminal Department.  The company was expanding rapidly during that period, and during my last years with ARAMCO as a Terminal Dept. manager, we were loading 500,000 DWT ULCC (Ultra) at rates of 100,000 barrels per hour.

After returning to the good 'ole USA I worked 8 years for Chevron oil company as Engineering Manager and President of a company cleaning up a large Superfund landfill site near Los Angeles, California.

At age 65 I retired to the Hill Country of Texas and then to Port St. Lucie in southern Florida.

The Oktoberfest is held at the "American German Club" which promotes German Customs.
