Joseph Meyer Jr. USN

BIOS
Captain MEYER was
born in Somerset, Pennsylvania and attended
high school in Pittsburgh. After attending Cornell and the University
of
Rochester, he was commissioned from the Naval Reserve Midshipman
School,
Notre Dame in March 1945. Attendance at George Washington University
was
followed by graduation from sub- marine School in 1948.
Captain MEYER served
in the submarines REMORA and SCABBARDFISH, was Executive Officer of
SIRAGO
and commanded the fast attack submarine BARBEL. In 1966 he
commanded Submarine
Division SEVENTY-THREE.

He has had two tours
in the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations; 1954-56 in the Foreign
Military Assistance Division and 1963-65 as Submarine Warfare Evaluator
in the Progress Analysis Group. From 1958-60 he served as Submarine
Operations
Officer on the Staff of Commander Antisubmarine Warfare Force,
Atlantic.
In 1965 he joined the Staff of Commander Submarine Squadron SEVEN with
additional duty as Operations Officer, Submarine Flotilla FIVE. In
August
1966 he joined the Staff of Commander Submarine Force, U.S. Pacific
Fleet
where he served as Instructor of the Prospective Commanding Officers
School
and later, as Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations and Plans.
In addition to Submarine
School, Captain MEYER is a graduate of the Naval General Line School,
Armed
Forces Staff College and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. He
then reported for duty as Commanding Officer USS
KAWISHIWI AO-146.
He is married to
the former Sidney Elizabeth DONELSON of Birmingham, alabama; has three
daughters, Christine, Roxanne and Tracy; and resides in Honolulu,
Hawaii.
