Serveing aboard the Kawishiwi as an FT (Fire Control Tech)provided me with lots of good experiences.  One in mind was “Operation Frequent Wind” which we rescued people fleeing Saigon during the fall of their city to the NVA.  We had picked up over 300 refugees.  I had met one family who had lost everything.  Twe and her three daughters wanted to go to Canada.  Her husband was a physician and was executed in front of his family while trying to escape.  There was another woman who gave birth aboard ship, and the baby was only as big as my hand.  The refugees would throw money at us as we helped them.  There was the time where a gun ship surrendered to us, and I was part of the prize crew and to guard to prisoners.

Take care,
