On
boarding Kawishiwi, there was an
overage of CT’s (back then they called them “Communication
Technicians”) so they blessed me with a rate change to PN. The
Navy decided everyone knew the moniker “Communication Technician” was
more euphemistic than accurate, so they renamed us “Cryptologic
Technicians” which more accurately described what we did. After my four
years, I got out. Later I joined the reserves where I was
re-designated a CT, and went from CTRSN to CTR2 in about three
years. I lost the crow because I was out for more than 5 years.
