Departed as an BT2  in B Division

Al was aboard when Apollo 13 splashed down.

I remember seeing the capsule as a speck, just over the horizon, so we must have been within 50 or so miles.  We unrepped with Iwo Jima the next day (the capsule was visible on their flight deck) and then headed back to Pearl.

A Samoan friend in M division, Lifa,  was crushed because he had planned to visit family in Pago Pago but schedule changes due to problems with the mission prevented it.. That guy chewed glass, I kid you not, he would take a bite out of his glass, chew it, and spit it out.
