very interesting and brings back memories. I was onboard during the Saigon
evacuation and also the near collision with the aircraft carrier
Hancock
(just prior to the evacuation) where we broke most of our span wires and pulled
fueling stations loose from Hancock's deck. Went back to Subic for repairs.

I was an EN1 while on
Kawishiwi
and was assigned to A Div. When I reported onboard MM1 Cuenca was LPO
of
A Div. When I arrived we split the work load where he took care of the
MM stuff and I took care of the EN stuff. Of course we all worked
together,
especially during unrep when we all monitored the pumps, deck equipment
and emerg diesel. I departed ship when we went into Subic with all of
the
refugees from Saigon.
The reason that I am not
in the cruise book for the 73-74 westpac is that I joined the ship in
Subic
in November. Finished out the cruise and returned to Pearl. Made a trip
or two (don't remember for sure) to Somoa to replenish a USNS ship that
was monitoring the French doing some Nuke testing. Did the workups and
deployed to Westpac again, not sure of the date. During this cruise(I
think
in May) I left the ship so did not get in that cruise book either.
