CDR Fitzwilliam was
Executive Officer USS KAWISHIWI
from December, 1971 to October, 1973. 

During that time KAWISHIWI conducted a nine-month WestPac deployment in 1972 and started another in the fall of 1973.  Operations on deployment primarily involved supporting aircraft carriers and destroyers who were waging war off the coast of Vietnam.  The ship operated mostly out of Subic Bay, in the Philippines.

Commanding Officers during CDR Fitzwilliam’s tour on board were Captains O. J. Bilderback and Nick Nicholson.

In October, 1973, with the ship in Subic Bay for an upkeep period, CDR Fitzwilliam was relieved as EXEC by CDR Joe Rice.  CDR Fitzwilliam went on to relieve as Commanding Officer USS MISPILLION (AO-106).  Subsequently he commanded USS HALEAKALA (AE-25) and USS SEATTLE (AOE-03). Captain Fitzwilliam retired from the Navy whole serving at the Pentagon in 1985, and took up residence in Fairfax, Virgin
