Born March 23, 1922 in Laverne, Iowa.  He attended high school and junior college in Emmetsburg, IO before enrolling in Kemper Military School, Boonville, MO where he graduated in 1941.  Capt. Edge entered  the United States Naval Academy in July 1941, and was commissioned an ensign, U.S.Navy in June of 1944.

Capt Edge married the former Beverly Beal Feldmann of Minneapolis, MN residing in Makalapa Housing, Pearl Harbor, HA with their four children Deborah, Donald, Diane, and Dorian

Prior to flight school he served on USS Canberra and USS Montpelier within the gunnery and navigation departments.  He won his navy wings in June 1947 and was subsequently attached to VA-94.  He returned to Pensacola as a flight instructor  in Janurary 1950, remaining for two years.  He reported to VC-3 in March 1952, and during the Korean action he deployed on USS Philipine Sea and later on USS Hornet.

In July 1955 he reported to the University of Nebraska as an associate  professor, and taught naval science through June 1958.  He attended postgraduate school at Stanford University attaining a master of arts degree in June 1959.  He has been executive and commanding officer of VF-213.  September 1963 marked the completions of 2 years duty on USS Bon Homme Richard as air operations officer.  From March 1964 to 1965 he was commanding officer of CVW-14.  Following this duty he served on the joint staff of the Joint Chiefs of Staff untill Janurary 1967 when he reported for duty as Commanding Officer, USS Kawishiwi (AO-146).

Capt. Edge has been awarded the Air Medal (3 Stars), commendation (V), Navy Unit Commendation, and the Korean Presidential Unit Citiation.  His campaign and service medals include American Defense, American Theater, Asiatic-Pacific, Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation, Korean Service, United Nations, National Defense, Navy Occupation, and China Service.
