Ships Commissioning Plaque

This plaque came to use in June of 2006 by way a Vietnam Army Veteran, Mike Duncan of Denver. A friend of his was clearing debris from a back yard when he found this bronze plaque. He also found a another bronze plaque shaped like a shield, mounted on on wood. Mike found the Kawishiwi site on the web and contacted Vern. His words to him were: "As a Vietnam Army vet I saw that your ship played a role in supporting us during the war. As a result I have no intention of profiting from this matter and would only ask someone pay the UPS charges etc. I would be glad to send these items to anyone who wants them. Best case would be if anyone lived in the Denver area and could pick them up."

Sam Hobbs did pick these items up and displayed this plaque at the 2006 Reunion. We are working on finding a good home for this and other articles important to Kawishiwi crew members.
