I came on board 1971 and disembarked 1973
to go back to finish my final year in Engineering at Michigan Tech
University in the cold country of Michigans Upper Peninsula where
I got my BSME in 1974. I went to work for Owens Corning in Toledo Ohio
as an Engineer. They have since given me the opportunity to work in
several capacities in operations in Dallas TX, Denver CO, and now
Amarillo TX. Hard to believe its almost 30 years with one
company.
Dixon was our HT1 in "R" Div. We had a cast of characters on that cruise, most exceptionally fine guys, several whom I stay in contact with today. Your photo of Subic Bay has Bernie, Mac and Jimbo: 3 of those characters. I was a Scuba instructor prior to my service and was very glad to find interest with several guys when I got on board including and especially Ket Brown. Together we started a dive group and lots of fun times, lots of teaching, lots of stories, lots of long term friendships evolved from that. I will write more detail later and dig thru some photos to send you. "Jingles" Richardson notes about the swimming pool on O3 level aft.....it was great...he started that and I think I have a photo. Our dive group did a beach and underwater cleanup on Grande Island that I recall got a writeup in the Navy Times publication. Ray Serna did our cruise book as an excellent artist/photographer and he and Ket are interested in the reunion. I taught Ray a little about diving and he taught me some about photography. Ket, in Orlando, went on to teach a national program of diving search and recovery to public safety and law enforcement officers. My wife
is Karen Buckley and I have 2 step children: Brittany
Walker 22, Senior at Texas A&M
Tyson
Walker 21 in Dallas (I wish he was in the Navy) Kelsea
Buckley 12 .. Picked as one of this area cheerleaders to be part of a
national group to cheer at halftime at the Hula Bowl in January in
Maui........We get to go back to Hawaii.....Yeh!!
