VIEW THE APA HISTORICAL PRESERVATION PROJECT
 a project dedicated to preserving the history of attack transports (APAs)
and amphibious operations in the 20th century -- with primary focus upon the
great amphibious campaigns of the Second World War

Today she is the only originally configured World War II attack transport
  to survive intact into the 21st century.  She’s the only remaining originally
  configured attack transport from which young Americans debarked down nets
  into landing craft to make the terrifying trip to the beach and combat.

The Last Originally Configured World War II Attack Transport

Once she is gone, no place like it from any amphibious battle
of the Second World War will exist.

The Gage is simply our last chance to save this history
